Adopt a Room
By allowing donors to take on costs associated with fixing up actual bedrooms at Fresno's only emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, this program offers donors a unique opportunity to help women and children in crisis.
As the adopted rooms are transformed into refuges where victims will find comfort, donors are able to clearly see the impact of their goodwill. They receive pictures of their adopted rooms before, during, and after the refurbishing process. And when renovations are complete, plaques are placed above the doors of adopted rooms, naming them in honor of their adopters.
Once rooms are reopened, donors receive updates on how many women and children have found safe haven in their rooms, and how many nights of shelter their rooms provided.
The 22,000-square-foot Emergency Shelter has 44 adoptable rooms, and the cost of adopting ranges from $3,900 to $7,300, depending on the room's size and amount of repairs needed. Renovations include new paint, flooring, windows and window covers, beds and other furniture. And donors also have the option of teaming up to adopt a room, covering the cost of just one of the renovations.
In addition to bedrooms, donors can choose to adopt other rooms in the Emergency Shelter, such as the intake room, front office, case manager office, counselor's office, or even the linen closet.
